PHP 5 – The Latest in Programming

Last week, I had an interesting conversation with my co-worker, a prominent PHP web developer, on the latest version of PHP 5. Both of us agreed on one point, as compared to PHP, even though J2EE and .NET had enough exposure and hype to support them, the former is fast rising in terms of popularity, simply on the strength of easy-to-use features.

The PHP 5 version is gradually taking over the earlier PHP 4 version, and is creating waves in the programming world. However, the shift from version 4 to 5 wasn’t that fast. As version 5 was out of the development shell, some bugs were detected in it and that took considerable time to be eliminated. Once the new version was reported free of bugs, PHP web developers felt the immediacy for the shift.

I too advocated the change and was an active participant in adopting the new version. Not surprisingly, several other programmers questioned the need to shift, since PHP 4 was already a success and consistent on its success level. The explanation of the query focuses on the areas where PHP 4 fails to excel and the newer version takes over. With the requisite weapons, PHP 5 helps you to go with the recent trends in web development.

PHP 5 is suitable for larger projects and enterprises, where they have detailed integrated project management, and it is mandatory to have interoperability in the system. The immediate benefits of the latest version, leads to better developed functionalities, features, and of course, speed. PHP web developers have highly benefited from using the newer version, due to its embedded functions that are much better, speedy, and have upgraded flexibility.
